Get to know our newest instructor and resident, Caro, as she answers a fun Q+A to let us in on her fave muscle and preferred prop. Read on to find out more and peruse her bio. You can book a session with her at the studio on Thursdays!
Q: Fave muscle?
A: That would have to be the transverse abdominis. After recently experiencing pregnancy, childbirth and postpartum, my understanding of and fascination with the abdominal muscle group – the TVA in particular – has definitely grown (no pun intended). I completely lost my connection to my core after giving birth and am working really hard to re-educate my own body. It is so important for all of us to properly access the TVA for ongoing spinal health and pelvic stability – not just mamas or mamas-to-be.
Q: Preferred prop?
A: The overball – it is versatile and easy to pack for travel. I like to use the overball in supine exercises to support clients find their connection with their core, pelvic placement and posterior lateral breathing.
Q: Fun fact about you?
A: I love interior design and have a slight (my husband would say ‘serious’) addiction to the HGTV show Fixer Upper. I’m constantly rearrangement furniture in our apartment to keep our toddler safe at the moment, but what I would really love to do is to update the entire floor plan of the place to maximize space and create more useful living areas for us. A few DIY projects will have to do for now, I guess; I’ve got a few on my list that should freshen things up a bit.
Caro started her Pilates journey in Australia after experiencing lower back pain and chronic tension headaches only 3-months into her first job as a marketing professional. She very quickly found that the focused movement, versatility and adaptability of Pilates gave her the balance she needed with a sit-down office job and busy work schedule. But it didn’t stop there: she discovered a whole new level of body awareness and appreciation of her own health, and felt happier than ever before!Ten years on, life’s funny twists and turns brought Caro to NYC where she decided to say goodbye to the office chair and become a certified Pilates teacher to actively share her passion for the movement method. She completed her Pilates mat and equipment certification at the Kane School of Core Integration and is now part of Kinected’s Residency Program.
Caro is originally from Germany, but called Australia home before moving to NYC. Her and her husband are proud parents of a lively 1-year old boy and a 6-year old fur baby. She loves taking photographs and spending time in nature, skiing, hiking or just going for a walk.
